We are currently seeking a Software Engineer (SWE3) to develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems, including processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, and business management information systems, based on documented requirements. The Software Engineer will work individually or as part of a team, reviewing and testing software components for adherence to design requirements and resolving software problem reports.

Location: Annapolis Junction

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, normal business hours (1,880 regular hours/year). No shift work, night work, weekend work, or holiday work required.

Essential Responsibilities: (describe the day-to-day)

  • Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements
  • Debug existing software and correct defects
  • Provide recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards
  • Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features
  • Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments
  • Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories
  • Write or review software and system documentation
  • Serve as team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process being used on any particular project
  • Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces/queries
  • Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards
  • Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components
  • Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, conferring with users or system engineers, analyzing system flow, data usage and work processes, and investigating problem areas
  • Modify existing software to correct errors, to adapt to new hardware, or to improve its performance
  • Design, develop, and modify software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design
  • Design or implement complex algorithms requiring adherence to strict timing, system resource, or interface constraints; perform quality control on team products
  • Implement recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards
  • Oversee one or more software development teams and ensure work is completed in accordance with the constraints of the software development process being used
  • Confer with system engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and obtain information on project limitations, capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces
  • Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure operational specifications are met
  • Recommend new technologies and processes for complex software projects
  • Serve as the technical lead of multiple software development teams
  • Select the software development process in coordination with the customer and system engineering
  • Ensure quality control of all developed and modified software
  • Delegate programming and testing responsibilities to one or more teams and monitor their performance

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

  • General office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers. No CONUS or OCONUS travel required.

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Experience with Angular and RxJS for front-end/UI development (mandatory)
  • Twelve (12) years of experience as a Software Engineer on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity

Security Clearance Required: TS//SCI w/Poly

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Four (4) years of additional Software Engineering experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.

Minimum Years of Experience: Twelve (12) years of experience as a Software Engineer on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

Required Certifications: None specified.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Spring Boot framework (not just Java or general Spring experience)
  • Experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security, JMS, Kafka, Java, Oracle, Elasticsearch, Docker, Kubernetes/K8s, Maven, Gradle, GitLab, and CI/CD

A decent subset of the above is acceptable; candidates are not expected to have experience with all listed technologies.

Compensation Details: $230,000 – $260,000

Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
